More than an honour – to be working on the largest ever domestic greenfield project

As these words are being written, the construction of SK Innovation’s electric car battery factory near Iváncsa is in full speed. It’s the largest greenfield project in Hungary’s history, and our team is carrying out the drone aerial surveys.

We feel a sense of being proud, while at the same time being aware of the responsibility that comes with a complex task. In the spirit of transparency, we have summarised in this article what we are doing to ensure a high level of project delivery.

In a nutshell, the biggest greenfield investment in Hungary’s history

The project, which is of extraordinary scale, is being carried out by SK Innovation, a South Korea-based company that is recognised as one of the world’s leading battery manufacturers. They are about to build their third production site in Hungary, near the municipality of Iváncsa in Fejér county.

The complex, which will be the site for the production of electric car batteries, will be built with a total investment of HUF 681 billion and is expected to create 2,500 new jobs.

Electric car batteries, sustainable operation and job creation. All of these are noble goals that we are keen to work towards.

We put extra effort into SK Innovation investment

Within our company, every team member is eager for a challenge. Therefore, it was no question that we would throw ourselves wholeheartedly into promoting the largest greenfield project in Hungary’s history.

So, with maximum attention and extreme precision, we carry out week after week near Iváncsa

  • topographic surveys;
  • full data processing with VITEL transformation;
  • and documenting the progress of the project.

We carry out a so-called SORA analysis before starting any operation. This is a multi-stage process of comprehensive risk analysis for unmanned aircraft operations. It aims to do our job by eliminating all possible risk factors.

From the start, we make sure that we work on the project with the highest level of security management. All operations are carried out in maximum compliance with the current EU Regulation 2019/947.

Using state-of-the-art drone technology to facilitate factory construction

For the drone-related tasks of the SK Innovation project, we are using the high-tech camera that is being referred to in the industry as the new benchmark for aerial surveys.

We were the first in the country to receive the DJI Zenmuse L1 drone camera /thank you Duplitec/, which has

  • an efficiency of 2 km2 in a single flight;
  • a point speed of 240 000 points / s;
  • and a detection range of 450 m.

As mentioned above, the SK Innovation battery factory will be built as a greenfield investment. This means that the site has no architectural or operational history.

These conditions clearly require that the most accurate measurements possible are taken from the air. The actual degree of this accuracy is powerfully illustrated in the table below:

The data show that an area of 80 hectares can be covered in two days with an accuracy of 2cm. That’s the efficiency of our state-of-the-art DJI enterprise technology.

Summary

The greenfield investment in the SK Innovation battery factory has given us an extra motivational boost within the company, and the heightened enthusiasm often makes it difficult for the team to sleep.

Of course, we firmly believe in the added value of drone air services and in the high utility of state-of-the-art drone technology. It will certainly not be up to us to ensure that the most accurate data is available for the work.
